Our Philosophy

Young Learners is a place where children, parents and kaiako come together to live, to learn, to love and to leave a legacy, as a whānau.

To Live - Hauora

Children learn best when they feel safe, healthy, secure and that they belong. We place physical and emotional wellbeing at the foundation of our curriculum. Our environments, routines, nutrition and relationships are designed to support tamariki to flourish. We acknowledge Te Tiriti o Waitangi and value Aotearoa New Zealand's bicultural heritage while respecting and celebrating the cultures, languages and identities within our community.

To Learn - Ako

Guided by Te Whāriki, we view children as capable learners with individual strengths, interests and learning potential. Learning happens through play, relationships, conversation, exploration, challenges and reflection. Kaiako intentionally supports children to understand themselves and their world, think creatively, develop values and character, and grow in both independence and interdependence.

To Love - Aroha

We value trusting, caring, respectful, responsive and reciprocal relationships. Social and emotional competence is an important part of our curriculum. Children are supported to understand feelings, communicate needs, develop empathy, build friendships, solve problems and participate positively with others.

To Leave a Legacy - Whakareretanga

We want children to know that their ideas, actions and relationships matter. As their capabilities grow, children are encouraged to contribute, take responsibility, care for others and their environment, and develop the confidence to make a positive difference in their whānau and community.
